Believed to be about two and a half centuries old, Faizabad, lying 7 km from the town of Ayodhya was founded by Saadat Khan – the second Nawab of Awadh. Shuja-ud-Daula, his successor made it the capital city. The Nawabs graced Faizabad with several beautiful buildings, notable among them being the Gulab Bari, Moti Mahal and the tomb of Bahu Begum. These buildings are particularly intresting for their assimilative architectural styles.
The Guptar Ghat here is said to be the site where Lord Rama took Jal Samadhi.
