The Lower House is called Vidhan Sabha and the Upper House is called as Vidhan Parishad.
The state also has a High Court. The state government`s Department of Planning is responsible for making developmental plan for the state. The state has the presence of a large number of village councils that are known as Panchayats. One of the most developed Panchayats is Shahabad in Maharajganj District. Uttar Pradesh is the most populous state in India consisting of 19.96 crore (199.6 million) inhabitants as per 2011 Census. It is also the most populous country subdivision in the world. There are 75 districts in Uttar Pradesh and they are grouped into 18 divisions. They are Agra, Aligarh, Azamgarh, Prayagraj, Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Chitrakoot Dham, Jhansi, Devi Patan, Ayodhya, Bareilly, Basti, Vindhyachal (Mirzapur), Moradabad, Meerut, Lucknow, Varanasi and Saharanpur.There are 403 constituencies in Uttar Pradesh.

Economy :
Uttar Pradesh is the most populous state in the country accounting for 16.4 per cent of the country’s population. It is also the fourth largest state in terms of geographical area covering 9.0 per cent of the country’s geographical area the major sector of Uttar Pradesh economy is Agriculture. Wheat, pulses, oilseeds, rice, sugarcane, and potatoes are the main crops grown here. Sugarcane is an important cash crop grown here. Apples and mangoes are also produced in this state.
Tourism, computer hardware and software, information technology products and handicraft are other major contributors to the state’s economy.
The state is the largest producer of foodgrains particularly wheat, sugarcane, pulses and potatoes in the country. About one-third of wheat produced in the country in 2001-02 came from Uttar Pradesh, and almost half of the total sugarcane growing area in India during 2001-02 was in Uttar Pradesh.
The state has diversified and naturally developed industrial activities. The spectrum of industrial activity in Uttar Pradesh covers the following-
- Food products and beverages, sugar and sugar-related products, tobacco products, chemicals and chemical products, metal, rubber and plastic products, metal fabrication work including motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers, textiles, wearing apparels, communication equipment, transport equipment, electrical machinery and apparatus, furniture, non-metallic mineral products, publishing, printing and media, paper and paper products, glass ware and leather related products.
- Other major industries are: vegetable and animal oils and fats, dairy products, grain mill products, animal feed, carpets and rugs.
- There are many export-oriented items made across Uttar Pradesh such as software, electronics, computer hardware, chemicals, stone products, brass work, betel leaves, potato based products, hand printing, leather items, cotton yarn, sarees, silk dress material, black pottery, handicraft items, art products, jewellery etc.
- In recent years, the state has also emerged as a major centre of information technology development, besides witnessing in growth in the service sector. Services like telecommunication, banking, insurance, logistics, transport, health and education have seen massive growth as purchasing power has improved.
- There has been tremendous growth in the infrastructure of Uttar Pradesh from the year 2012-13 onwards, resulting in construction of roads, expressway, district roads and electricity supply.
